Mitigation Banking Companies
The companies and public agencies that sponsor and operate mitigation and conservation banks across the United States. Each runs several banks — open one for its portfolio, locations and live credit availability. The 67 listed here operate 1,416 banks between them across 37 states, and 759 of those banks currently list available credits. The largest by bank count are Resource Environmental Solutions LLC, The Nature Conservancy and Wisconsin Department of Transportation. 37 work in a single state, while 9 operate in five or more.
A bank's operator is the party responsible for building the site, meeting its performance standards and selling the credits it releases. The federal registry records this party as the bank sponsor, and it may be a private company, a state agency, a county or a land trust. One sponsor often runs banks in several USACE districts and several states, which is why a buyer searching by company name and a buyer searching by project location can arrive at the same bank from opposite directions.

About the data on this page
Bank details, status and credit balances are mirrored from the USACE RIBITS registry, the federal public record for mitigation banks. Single-client banks are excluded from supply figures.
The operator grouping is ours, not from RIBITS. The federal registry records a sponsor for each bank but lists no parent company. We identify operators by matching sponsor names and contact details across bank records, reviewed by hand. We only display operators with at least five banks.
